SPORTS: Eagle Soar to African Pinnacle: Super Eagles Rank Among Top Three in Africa

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have reached new heights, climbing to third place in Africa’s rankings following their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The Eagles, who finished third overall, moved up from fifth to third in the continental rankings, trailing only AFCON finalists Senegal and Morocco, ranked 12th and 8th globally, respectively.

This remarkable rise is a testament to the team’s consistency and firepower, having won six of seven matches, including a 4-2 victory over Egypt in the third-place match. Globally, Nigeria retained its 26th position, marking stability rather than significant progress on the world stage.

The top 10 African teams now include DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Mali, and Tunisia, all ranked between 41st and 57th globally. However, failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup may impact Nigeria’s global ranking in future releases.
