LATEST NEWS: US Troops Arrive in Nigeria to Combat Terrorism

The United States has deployed a small team of military officers to Nigeria, marking a significant step in the fight against terrorism in West Africa. This move was announced by General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, commander of US Africa Command, during a briefing on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

According to reports, the deployment is a result of increased collaboration between the US and Nigeria to combat the growing threat of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The US team is expected to provide unique capabilities to support Nigerian forces in their counterterrorism efforts. General Anderson emphasized that the deployment is part of a broader effort to enhance security cooperation between the two countries.

This development comes after US President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on IS targets in Nigeria in December 2025, citing concerns over the persecution of Christians.

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, confirmed the presence of US personnel but did not provide further details.
