UK Court Jails Nigerian Student 10 Years for Raping Teenage Bus PassengerA 29-year-old Nigerian postgraduate student, Chiemeka Okoronta, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the UK for raping a 17-year-old girl who was stranded after missing her bus. The victim’s phone had died, and Okoronta offered to share a taxi to their mutual destination of Bradford.
However, the vehicle arrived at Okoronta’s flat, where he persuaded the teenager to go inside and then locked her in the toilet before attacking her.After the assault, the victim approached a bystander outside and used their phone to call the police.
The Bradford Crown Court sentenced Okoronta to 10 years in prison, a 3-year extended license, and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Judge Sophie McKone described Okoronta as a “dangerous sexual predator” and stated that he would likely be deported to Nigeria after serving his sentence.
