The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has finally caught up with 58-year-old Uzoma Valentine Ilomuanya, a fugitive drug kingpin wanted in the UK for over 15 years. Ilomuanya was arrested in Lagos recently, after a high-stakes operation by the NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the agency’s war against drug cartels, ending a prolonged cat-and-mouse chase with law enforcement agencies in Nigeria and the UK. Ilomuanya has a history of drug-related offenses, including a 2003 conviction in the UK for drug trafficking and a 2011 arrest for similar charges.
In 2018, NDLEA operatives uncovered two clandestine methamphetamine laboratories linked to Ilomuanya, one in Imo State and another in Lagos, recovering 77.960 kilograms of methamphetamine and production equipment.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the team’s professionalism, stating, “The long arm of the NDLEA will eventually catch up with those who choose to undermine the health, security, and future of our nation”.
