Nigeria has made a significant leap in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, jumping 14 spots from 103rd to 89th place. This means Nigerian passport holders can now travel to 44 countries without a visa, a notable improvement from previous years. Although this is still considered a weak capacity compared to other African countries like Seychelles (24th) and Mauritius (27th), it’s a step in the right direction.
The Henley Passport Index ranks countries based on the number of destinations their passport holders can access without a visa. Singapore takes the top spot, offering visa-free access to 192 nations, while Afghanistan has the world’s worst passport, ranking 101st.
Other African countries also performed well, with Seychelles retaining its 24th position, Mauritius ranking 27th, and South Africa placing 48th. The UK and Canada ranked 7th and 8th, respectively, while the US placed 10th.
