A new batch of 306 Nigerians has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, after fleeing the war in Ukraine. The evacuees landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Sunday morning, aboard Air Peace Boeing 777-300 Flight APK7534 from Budapest, Hungary. This brings the total number of Nigerians evacuated by the Federal Government to 1,112, with 807 others having been evacuated in three batches earlier.
The returnees, mostly students, expressed relief and gratitude upon arrival, thanking the Federal Government for its swift response to their plight. The government had approved $8.5 million for the evacuation of at least 5,000 Nigerians fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian conflict zone to Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other agencies provided support to the returnees, including $100 each to aid with transportation and accommodation.
