The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is gearing up for the 2026 Diaspora Festival, a significant event where President Bola Tinubu will receive over 2,000 Nigerians returning from the diaspora in Badagry. The festival, themed around reconnecting with ancestral roots, is being organized by Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka.
The voyage will recreate the journey from Brazil and Cuba to Nigeria, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage. Professor Soyinka emphasized that the voyage of the African people remains incomplete until they reconnect with their ancestral roots.
The festival aims to promote cultural renaissance, diaspora unity, and economic growth, with support from the Lagos State Government and local authorities. The event will feature colorful displays, performances, and the presentation of Certificates of Return to 57 international returnees.
President Tinubu, who initiated the Black Heritage Festival as Lagos State Governor, is expected to receive the returnees. The festival is a symbolic launchpad for the long-awaited return, praying for the safe homecoming of all Africans in the diaspora.
The event is expected to attract Nigerians from across the globe, providing an opportunity for networking, cultural exchange, and investment. As Professor Soyinka emphasized, the voyage of the African people remains incomplete until they reconnect with their ancestral roots.
