Two Nigerians were arrested in India in separate incidents involving romance scams and drug trafficking. Oliver Okechukwu, 47, was arrested in Mumbai on charges of duping a woman of 5.5 lakh (about N9. 5m) under the pretext of marriage. He posed as “Satya Amit,” a London-based professional, targeting women through matrimonial websites.
Ikechukwu Calistus, 38, was arrested in Goa’s Marna-Siolim for drug trafficking. Police seized 35.5 grams of cocaine, 4.4 grams of methamphetamine, and 2.3 grams of MDMA valued at around 8.5 lakh.
India’s authorities have intensified efforts against drug trafficking, with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and police forces conducting operations involving international cooperation and tracking money trails. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has commended agencies for their work in combating narcotics.

Arrests often involve collaborative efforts, like the Telangana Anti Narcotic Bureau busting a global drug racket involving Nigerians. Authorities urge citizens to report suspicious activities, especially involving foreigners, through helplines like India’s National Narcotics Helpline (MANAS) at 1933.
These incidents reflect ongoing challenges and collaborative efforts to combat drug trafficking and cybercrimes involving Nigerian nationals abroad.
