A 29-year-old Nigerian woman, Olajide Esther Iyanuoluwa, has been arrested in Bengaluru, India, for attempting to smuggle 121 grams of cocaine worth approximately N195 million (₹1.2 crore) hidden inside bread loaves. She was caught by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) while traveling from Mumbai to Bengaluru on a private bus.
Olajide, who arrived in India last year on a student visa, allegedly never enrolled in any educational institution and was instead involved in drug trafficking. She had cleverly drilled holes in the bread loaves to conceal the cocaine, which was packed alongside other food items in her backpack.
The CCB received a tip-off about Olajide’s activities and intercepted her upon arrival in Bengaluru. Based on her statement, authorities arrested the intended recipient of the drugs, a Nigerian national, who was later deported.
“This case shows how traffickers are constantly innovating ways, using common household items and food as cover,” said a senior police officer.
Olajide has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the larger supply chain and identify other associates involved in the racket.
