🏆Nigerian creatives stole the show at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, held at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Actress Wunmi Mosaku took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in “Sinners”, while Nigerian-made film “My Father’s Shadow” won Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. The film, directed by Akinola Davies Jr. and written by Wale Davies, explores Nigeria’s 1993 election crisis through a personal lens.
Mosaku, who previously won the same award in 2017 for “Damilola, Our Loved Boy”, cemented her status as a premier talent. “My Father’s Shadow” also made history as the first Nigerian production to screen at Cannes, showcasing the country’s growing influence on international storytelling.
The wins mark a milestone for Nigerian cinema, with industry analysts expecting a surge in co-production deals between Nollywood and British studios.
