Patrick Nonso, a Nigerian national, was arrested at Freetown International Airport on Sunday, February 22, 2026, after allegedly being found with 46 wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine. He was carrying an Italian passport at the time of his arrest.
Nonso is currently in police custody and is cooperating with investigators as they determine the origin of the suspected narcotics and whether others are involved. Forensic analysis is underway to confirm the composition and weight of the seized substance.
This arrest comes amid concerns about Sierra Leone becoming a hub for global cocaine trafficking. In November 2025, Nigerian authorities seized over 1,000 kilograms of cocaine valued at N29.4 billion (over $20 million) from a shipment originating from Sierra Leone.
The Sierra Leone Police have promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
