LATEST NEWS: Nigerian Caregiver Arrested for Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in Canada

Oghenemaro Dave Ejerua, a 38-year-old Nigerian caregiver, has been arrested and charged with seven counts of assault for allegedly mistreating vulnerable adults at a group home in East Toronto. The incidents reportedly occurred between November 1 and November 30, 2025, at a facility on Sibley Avenue and Dentonia Park Avenue.

Ejerua was taken into custody on January 12, 2026, after being declared wanted in December 2025. The Toronto Police Service launched an investigation following a report of an assault on December 10, 2025. The allegations have sparked concerns about safety and oversight in group homes, particularly for vulnerable individuals.

The case has raised questions about caregiver accountability and the need for robust safeguards in care facilities. Ejerua is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, with the allegations still pending.

This incident comes amid broader concerns about care home safety and labor disputes in Ontario, highlighting the importance of protecting vulnerable populations.
