Omorigo Friday, a 42-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested in Goa, India, on February 6, 2026, for allegedly possessing and peddling cocaine worth approximately 15.89 lakh (N1.5 million) in the international market. The arrest was made by the Goa Police Crime Branch, who seized 31.794 grams of suspected high-grade cocaine from Friday.
During interrogation, Friday provided information that led to the arrest of his alleged accomplice, 42-year-old Sudhir Gurudas Paleinkar, a resident of Sangolda in North Goa, on February 8. Both suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing into the source of the drugs and possible links to a wider trafficking network.
The case has sparked concerns about international drug trafficking, with reports indicating that the cartel smuggled cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamine, LSD, and MDMA into Mumbai and Pune using courier services. The drugs were then moved to Goa and Hyderabad through local carriers.
This is not an isolated incident, as several Nigerians have been arrested in India for drug-related crimes. In September 2025, seven Nigerians were arrested in India for drug trafficking, and in October 2025, a Nigerian national was arrested in Mumbai with cocaine worth N5.23 crore.
