The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a new initiative allowing international travelers to temporarily import their personal vehicles into the country without paying full duties.
The Temporary Admission regime is valid for up to 90 days, with a possible 30-day extension, and is designed for personal, non-commercial vehicles belonging to international travelers visiting Nigeria for tourism, diplomatic, business, or personal purposes.
Required documents include an international passport, international driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance, and CPD (Carnet de Passages en Douane) at the point of entry.
Vehicles cannot be sold, leased, transferred, modified, or used for commercial purposes, and travelers must notify the nearest Customs office in case of an accident, theft, or breakdown.
This initiative aims to ease cross-border movement, strengthen Nigeria’s compliance with international obligations, and enhance security and efficiency.
