The House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs has assured the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) of improved funding in the coming fiscal year. Chairman Hon. Chinedu Tochukwu Chikere made this promise during an oversight visit to NiDCOM’s Abuja office, commending Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa’s leadership despite limited resources.
Chikere emphasized the need for increased funding and a Diaspora Plaza to boost NiDCOM’s effectiveness, noting that engaging Nigerians abroad requires international outreach. Dabiri-Erewa highlighted initiatives like the National Diaspora Policy review, National Diaspora Day, and Diaspora Merit Awards, seeking stronger financial backing to deliver on NiDCOM’s mandate.
The Committee also inspected NiDCOM’s office facilities and discussed curbing fraudulent work visa agents. With diaspora remittances exceeding $90 billion in five years, NiDCOM aims to enhance engagement and investment opportunities.
