LATEST NEWS: Netherlands Steps Up Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking in Nigeria

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is intensifying efforts to dismantle human trafficking networks in Nigeria. Senior officials from both countries met in Abuja to review progress under the Building an Environment Free of Human Trafficking and Violence Against Persons in Nigeria (TIPVAP NG) project.

The project focuses on strengthening Nigeria’s resilience to trafficking and violence through improved investigative and prosecutorial capacities. Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Bello, highlighted measurable results, including improved investigations, prosecutions, and victim support services in states like Benue, Delta, and Edo.

The Netherlands is a key partner in addressing trafficking flows between West Africa and Europe. Dutch Deputy Director-General, Victor Cramer, emphasized the need for stronger intelligence-sharing and coordinated enforcement.

The meeting reaffirmed commitment to sustained international cooperation, with a focus on victim-centered, rights-based approaches. The partnership aims to disrupt trafficking networks, protect vulnerable populations, and promote awareness campaigns to prevent trafficking.
