Latest News: Heroic Rescue!

Governor Monday Okpebholo saves a Nigerian victim of human trafficking from Burkina Faso! Iwinosa Okunrobo, a 20-year-old Edo girl, was lured with promises of a better life in the UAE but ended up in Burkina Faso when she was just 15. Thanks to Okpebholo’s swift intervention, she’s safely back with her parents in Benin City.

Okunrobo was forced into prostitution and sold into slavery for years before her rescue. Her mother, Mrs Imuetiyan Osabuoyen, thought she’d lost her daughter forever, not knowing she’d been trafficked five years ago.

Governor Okpebholo vows to punish traffickers, warning they face property seizure and legal consequences under Edo State’s Trafficking in Persons Law 2018. He emphasizes strict enforcement to protect vulnerable women and children.

The rescue showcases Okpebholo ‘s commitment to safeguarding Edo citizens globally. The Office of the First Lady and Edo Migration Agency supported the effort, with Director General Lucky Agazuma leading the rescue mission in Burkina Faso.

Iwinosa’s story highlights dangers of human trafficking, serving as warning. Authorities urge awareness and caution against societal pressures pushing young people into risky situations.
