The Consul-General of the Republic of Germany in Lagos, Mr. Daniel Krulls, has announced plans to fast-track visa processing for Nigerians. This move aims to strengthen economic cooperation between Germany and Nigeria, particularly in helping Nigerian creatives collect royalties from global platforms like YouTube, Google, and Netflix.
The German consulate plans to implement a faster visa processing system, with a maximum processing period of three weeks for all categories of visas. To achieve this, the consulate will increase personnel and double visa counters, explore external service providers for specific visa categories, and set up a system for verifying academic diplomas.
This development is expected to facilitate travel to Germany for Nigerians, promote economic and cultural exchange between the two countries, and boost Nigeria’s creative industry. Germany’s willingness to support Nigeria’s growth and protect intellectual property rights is a welcome move, and Nigerians are likely to benefit from the increased cooperation.
