LATEST NEWS: FG Ready to Welcome Home: Prepares for Potential US Deportees

The Federal Government of Nigeria has assured citizens that it’s prepared to receive Nigerians who may be deported from the United States, following intensified immigration crackdowns by the US government. An inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser, has been established to manage the situation and provide necessary support to affected individuals.

According to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), approximately 3,690 Nigerians are currently on the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) non-detained docket with final removal orders. While no formal deportations have been confirmed, the Federal Government is taking proactive steps to ensure a smooth transition for affected citizens.

“We’re ready to welcome our citizens home and provide them with the necessary support,” said Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media and Corporate Affairs at NiDCOM. The government is working to facilitate reintegration and provide essential services to returning citizens.
