A prominent diaspora advocacy group, the Rising Sun Group, has strongly condemned Senator Orji Kalu’s recent remarks on the Biafra agitation, describing his interview on Channel Television as a “disgraceful show” aimed at currying favor with the presidency.
Based in the United States, the Rising Sun Group expressed disappointment with Kalu’s defense of Justice Omotosho’s controversial judgment and his claim that 30,000 people died due to the Biafra agitation led by IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement signed by Chairman Maxwell Dede and Coordinator Father Augustine Odinmegwa, the group believes Kalu’s comments were unbecoming, especially his condemnation of Nnamdi Kanu’s reaction in court, and suggests he should have remained silent on the issue.
As a respected voice in the diaspora community, the Rising Sun Group’s statement is expected to fuel further debate on the Biafra issue and Kalu’s role in Nigerian politics.
