LATEST NEWS: Details Emerge About Slain South Africa-based Nigerian Student’s Illegal Activities on Bolt Platform

Isaac Satlat, a 22-year-old Nigerian student in South Africa, was tragically murdered by suspected carjackers in Pretoria. He was working as a Bolt driver, using another driver’s profile, Wiseman Makobe, to operate the ride-hailing service.

The incident occurred on February 11, 2026, when Satlat picked up passengers who allegedly strangled him and stole his vehicle. A dashcam video showed the brutal attack, sparking public outrage and protests in South Africa.

Bolt, the e-hailing company, confirmed Satlat wasn’t registered as a driver and had engaged in “profile sharing”, a practice strictly prohibited by the company. As a result, Satlat’s family isn’t eligible for compensation.

Four suspects have been arrested and charged with murder and robbery. Three appeared in court, while the fourth suspect handed himself over. The case has raised concerns about e-hailing driver safety in South Africa.

Satlat’s family is seeking help to repatriate his body to Nigeria, and a fundraising campaign has been launched. His death has sparked demands for improved safety measures and government intervention.
