LATEST NEWS: CROSS RIVER STATE MAKES HISTORY WITH DIASPORA OFFICE INAUGURATION

Cross River State has become the first state in Nigeria to establish a diaspora office, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to engage with its global community. The Cross River State Diaspora Commission (CRIDCOM) was inaugurated by Governor Bassey Otu, with the aim of harnessing the skills, resources, and investments of Cross River indigenes in the diaspora to drive growth and development at home.

The commission will serve as a bridge between the state government and its citizens abroad, promoting global partnerships, investments, and development. It will also foster unity among Cross Riverians abroad, initiate developmental programs, and serve as a strategic arm for foreign relations.

Chairman of CRIDCOM, Otu Esu Okor, expressed gratitude to Governor Otu for the appointment, pledging to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development. The commission’s members include Elizabeth Greene (Secretary), Eyobong Ita, Douglas Agba, Dr. Maggie Inde, Emily Madueke, Anita Pascal, Barbara Eta, and Dr. Ignatius Oli.

The inauguration was attended by NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who commended Governor Otu’s visionary leadership and described the achievement as “historic”. About 300 Cross River indigenes abroad are expected to visit the state in November 2025 for the Diaspora Day celebrations.
