LATEST NEWS: Big Change for Immigrants in the US

🇺🇸The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has just announced a major update that’s affecting thousands of immigrants. As of October 30, 2025, certain categories of immigrants will no longer receive automatic extensions on their work permits, also known as Employment Authorization Documents (EADs), when they apply for renewal.

If you’re an immigrant with an EAD that’s expiring soon, you need to act fast! To avoid gaps in your employment authorization, it’s highly recommended that you file your renewal application up to 180 days before your current EAD expires. If you don’t, you might have to stop working until your new EAD is approved.

According to DHS, this change is aimed at improving national security and public safety by allowing for full background checks before permits are renewed. The agency believes that this will help identify potential security risks and prevent fraud.

There are some exceptions to this new rule, including certain cases under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and other provisions established by law or official Federal Register notices. If you fall under one of these categories, you might still be eligible for an automatic extension.

If your EAD is expiring soon, don’t wait! File your renewal application as early as possible to avoid any disruptions to your work authorization. You can file up to 180 days before your EAD expires. It’s also a good idea to seek professional guidance if you’re unsure about the process.
