A special assistant on internal security to the chairman of Onicha local government area of Ebonyi state, Chukwudi Nwite, popularly known as ‘Igbaoto’, has been arrested for allegedly facilitating the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl to Libya. The Ebonyi Police command spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, stating that it happened on October 10 and investigations are ongoing.
The victim’s father, Mr. Johnson Agu, alleged that Nwite visited their home, after which his daughter went missing. The police are working to bring justice to the victim and her family.
The arrest has sparked outrage and calls for swift action against human traffickers in the region. The State Coordinator of the Civil Society Network on Migration and Development, Mrs. Goodness Mbajah, praised the police for their efforts and urged them to ensure due process is followed.
The Council Boss, Ogboffia, has also distanced himself from Nwite’s actions, stating that he should face the consequences if found guilty.
