The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has prevented 332 migrants from entering the country through the Seme border due to irregular documents. Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, revealed that these individuals were stopped by immigration border patrol for lacking valid travel documents.
This move is part of the NIS’s efforts to curb irregular migration and human trafficking. In recent weeks, the service has also stopped 294 Nigerians from leaving the country without proper documentation and rescued 36 victims of human trafficking and child labor.
The NIS is working closely with international partners, including the AU, ECOWAS, EU, IOM, UNODC, INTERPOL, and the Federal German Police, to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations. The service has also installed CCTV cameras at strategic locations to improve surveillance.
The fight against migrant smuggling is a moral responsibility, and the NIS is committed to ensuring safe and regular migration. As Nandap emphasized, “Every smuggled migrant represents a life at risk and a family disrupted”
