Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, in collaboration with National Security, has arrested 32 Nigerian nationals operating a large-scale romance scam syndicate in Kasoa Tuba, Accra. The suspects were caught with laptops and mobile phones used to defraud international victims through fake online relationships.
The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, praised the authorities for their efforts, stating, “This dawn, another massive blow has been struck against cybercrime in Ghana.” The operation is part of Ghana’s intensified efforts to combat rising cyber fraud, including romance scams affecting victims locally and abroad.
The suspects are currently assisting authorities, and further arrests are expected as investigations continue. This bust highlights Ghana’s commitment to making the country an unattractive destination for cybercriminals.
Romance scams involve creating fake profiles, building emotional trust, and exploiting victims for money or valuables. Ghana has seen a surge in such cases, prompting stronger international collaborations to protect citizens and deter criminal operations.
