In a significant crackdown on terrorism, Interpol has apprehended 11 top-ranking members of various terrorist groups operating in Nigeria. This major operation, conducted under the auspices of Operation Catalyst, saw the arrest of 83 individuals across six African countries, with Nigeria contributing a substantial number of suspects.
The operation resulted in the seizure of over $260 million in fiat and virtual currencies. A major cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme was uncovered, defrauding over 100,000 victims worldwide to the tune of $562 million. Multiple digital wallets linked to terrorism financing networks were identified and frozen.
This operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. With the help of AFRIPOL and other law enforcement agencies, Interpol is sending a strong message to terrorist groups that their activities will not be tolerated.
