The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is taking bold steps to tackle a major cocaine trafficking operation, collaborating with international partners to bring the perpetrators to justice. The agency, alongside the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), is investigating the importation of 1,000 kilograms of cocaine seized at the PTML Terminal of Tincan Island Port, Lagos.
According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, the shipment was discovered in an empty container over the weekend, prompting a joint examination by NDLEA, Customs, and other security agencies. The consignment, valued at over $235 million (approximately N338 billion), is one of the largest single seizures of cocaine at the port.
The NDLEA chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, emphasized the importance of international cooperation, stating, “The essence of collaborating with our international partners on this case is to ensure no stone is left unturned, so that every perpetrator of this massive consignment is held accountable, wherever they are located.
