โ๏ธ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ณ๐ฌ”United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has unveiled an aircraft named after former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings, marking a significant milestone in West African aviation. To honor Rawlings’ pan-African ideals, the airline has launched direct commercial flights from Lagos to Accra and Abuja to Accra. The inaugural ceremony took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, highlighting the strong ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
The airline’s Chairman, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, emphasized that UNA is committed to bridging the gap between the two nations and fostering economic growth. The new routes are expected to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Ghana. With this launch, UNA strengthens its position as a key player in West African aviation, promoting regional integration and cooperation. The airline’s vision aligns with Rawlings’ legacy of pan-Africanism and his efforts to unite the region.
The inaugural flight, NUA 0590, is scheduled to depart Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 10:35 a.m. on November 10, 2025, and arrive at Kotoka International Airport, Accra. This historic operation represents the first direct capital-to-capital service between Abuja and Accra operated by a Nigerian carrier.
The Accra route embodies United Nigeria Airlines’ commitment to regional integration, trade facilitation, and cultural exchange across West Africa. The airline is expanding its fleet with six aircraft over the next few months to deepen aviation access within ECOWAS and boost people-to-people exchange.
The new routes are expected to enhance trade, boost tourism, and deepen cultural relationships between Nigeria and Ghana. Nigerian aviation safety standards meet some of the highest benchmarks globally, with pilots re-certifying every six months.
