LATEST NEWS: Canada Cuts Study Permit Validity for Nigerians, Others

Canada has revised its study permit policy, specifically impacting Nigerian students among others. The new rules reduce the validity period for international students who need to complete preparatory courses before starting longer academic programs.

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), study permits for prerequisite programs will now be issued for only 90 days beyond the duration of the preparatory course, down from the previous 12 months.

This change aims to streamline processing and ensure students transition quickly into their primary academic programs. Nigerian students already in Canada may still be eligible to apply for a study permit from within the country under certain conditions.

The revised policy is part of Canada’s efforts to manage international student inflow while maintaining high educational standards.
