A 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer, Sheriff Shittu, was shot dead at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in Brooklyn, New York, following an altercation with a drunk patron. The incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. on February 14, during a birthday celebration. The suspect, who was being escorted out of the club, allegedly opened fire and fled the scene, leaving Shittu dead.
Shittu’s family is calling for justice, questioning how the gunman managed to bring a firearm into the club despite security measures. “We don’t know how the security did not do the job and search properly before somebody could bring a gun into the club,” said Salem Shittu, the victim’s brother.
The fashion designer, who immigrated to the US in 2018, was working to establish his own fashion brand, Riff Ent. His family remembers him as a kind and protective person who didn’t deserve to die.
Police are still searching for the suspect, and investigations are ongoing. Shittu’s family is holding on to hope for justice and keeping his memory alive through his fashion brand.
