SPORTS: US-based Nigerian Coach Poised to Take the Helm of Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly considering US-based Nigerian coach Michael Nsien as the top contender to replace Eric Chelle as the Super Eagles coach, should he decide to leave.

Nsien, who is currently an assistant coach at Nashville SC in Major League Soccer, has a strong background in football management. He previously worked with Tulsa FC, rising from academy director to head coach, and has also held roles with USA youth teams at U16, U19, and U20 levels.

The NFF’s interest in Nsien comes as Eric Chelle’s contract talks have hit a snag, with the coach reportedly seeking a significant salary increase from $50,000 to $130,000 per month. Chelle’s future is uncertain, with interest from other countries, including Angola, and criticism from Nigerian fans and pundits.

Nsien has expressed his desire to bring structure and leadership to the Super Eagles, citing Nigeria’s rich footballing talent and his own Nigerian heritage as motivating factors. With his experience and credentials, Nsien is well-positioned to take the reins of the national team.
