The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has welcomed home 13 Nigerians who were rescued from a trafficking network in Ghana. The returnees, including 11 adults and two babies, were received by NiDCOM’s Head of Operations in Lagos, Mr Dele Ogunkanbi, after a successful repatriation exercise led by the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Amb. Adeoye.
NiDCOM Chairman, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for their efforts in facilitating the rescue and return of the victims. She also appreciated the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for providing transportation and other forms of support during the rescue operation.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) conducted profiling and provided reintegration support to the returnees, while NiDCOM provided logistical assistance. Some of the rescued women and children are receiving medical care and mental health support for serious health conditions.
Dabiri-Erewa warned young Nigerians against unverified job offers and travel arrangements abroad, highlighting the growing risks associated with irregular migration.
