LATEST NEWS: Outrage as Nigerian Killed in South Africa – NICASA Demands Justice

The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) has condemned the killing of a Nigerian national, Mr. Emeka Clement Uzor, who was reportedly shot dead on February 8, 2026, in Windsor, Randburg, Johannesburg. The incident has sparked anger and renewed fears over the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa.

NICASA President General, Hon. Rev. Frank Onyekwelu, described the killing as tragic and deeply disturbing, saying preliminary reports indicate that Uzor was fatally shot by a private security operative, Mr. Xolani Khumalo, alongside members of his team. He said the circumstances surrounding the shooting raise serious questions about the use of force and respect for human life.

According to NICASA, the killing represents a grave human rights violation and a painful loss not only to the family of the deceased but to the entire Nigerian community in South Africa. The association has called on the South African Police Service to carry out a full, transparent, and impartial investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

NICASA also urged the Nigerian government and its diplomatic missions in South Africa to closely monitor the case and provide consular support to the victim’s family. While condemning the act in the strongest terms, the group appealed to Nigerians in South Africa to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as legal and diplomatic efforts continue.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights, dignity, and safety of Nigerians in the diaspora, warning that unresolved cases like this could deepen fear within migrant communities and strain relations.
