LATEST NEWS: Life imprisonment for Nigerian Man who killed Ex-Girlfriend in UK

Adedapo Adegbola, a 40-year-old Nigerian man, has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old UK student Stephanie Irons, at her home in Nottingham. The sentencing took place today, February 5, 2026, at Nottingham Crown Court.

Adegbola stabbed Irons multiple times, including a fatal blow to the neck, after she ended their brief “controlling relationship”. The court heard that Adegbola had become obsessed with Irons and planned the attack, purchasing two knives days before. He sat on the sofa as Irons lay dying, then fled with her phone and keys, locking the flat behind him.

Adegbola handed himself in to police and pleaded guilty to murder in January. Judge Nirmal Shant KC sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years [2][8].Irons’ mother described her daughter as “compassionate and caring,” saying she “lit up the room” and wanted to make the world kinder.
