A Ghanaian national, Samuel Frimpong, has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant’s apartment in Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. The incident occurred at No. 7 Chief Chike Street, NTA Road, Mgbuoba, following a disagreement over the tenant’s continued stay after the expiration of his rent.
The tenant, Anozie Tochukwu, claimed that the landlord’s action damaged property worth approximately ₦25 million, including household appliances, furniture, documents, and personal belongings. His pregnant wife and two young children were also left exposed to the elements.
The police confirmed the arrest, with spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko stating that the landlord would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation. A legal practitioner, Raymond Okocha, condemned the action, describing it as a violation of due process and the rule of law.
Tochukwu had been given notice to vacate the premises in late 2025, with plans for renovation, but had requested a 14-day extension to relocate, which was denied.
