LATEST NEWS: Luxury Lifestyle on Trial: Diezani’s £140,000 Furniture Splurge

British prosecutors yesterday accused Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, of living a life of luxury in London, funded by bribes from oil industry figures. The allegations claim she spent a staggering £140,000 on luxury furniture and decorative art in just one day, with purchases made at a high-end antiques shop in London’s Kensington area.

The prosecution alleges that Alison-Madueke received these luxury items and other benefits, including private jet flights, chauffeur-driven cars, and expensive real estate, as inducements for her influence in Nigeria’s oil sector. Her brother, Doye Agama, and oil executive Olatimbo Ayinde are also facing bribery charges related to the case.

Alison-Madueke’s defense team denies the allegations, claiming she had no real power over oil contract awards and was merely a “rubber stamp” for decisions made by others. The trial, taking place at Southwark Crown Court in London, is expected to shed more light on the allegations and could have significant implications for accountability in the global energy industry.
