LATEST NEWS: US Set to Launch World’s Largest Consulate in Lagos, Boosting Nigeria’s Economy

The United States is breaking ground on a massive $537 million consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, which will become the largest US consulate globally. Located in Eko Atlantic City, the new facility is expected to be completed by 2027 and will support diplomatic and commercial relations between the US and Nigeria.

The project will not only strengthen bilateral ties but also inject an estimated $95 million into the local economy and create jobs for approximately 2,500 Nigerians, including engineers, architects, and administrative staff.

US Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard emphasized that the consulate will “honor the vibrant relationship between the United States and Nigeria and communicate the spirit of American democracy, transparency, and openness”.

This significant investment underscores the growing trade partnership between the US and Nigeria, with two-way trade in goods and services totaling nearly $13 billion in 2024.
