The Nigerian government, through the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has apologized to passengers and stakeholders for the power outage that hit Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos over the weekend. The authority attributed the disruption to a fault in the terminal’s changeover circuit, which occurred during a routine power switch.
According to FAAN, technical teams quickly swung into action, transferring electricity supply to the secondary grid and activating backup measures to restore services as quickly as possible. The agency expressed regret over the incident, assuring passengers and stakeholders that efforts were made to minimize disruption and ensure safety.
The power outage has raised concerns about the ageing infrastructure at the terminal, with the federal government having recently approved a N712 billion overhaul of the facility. The project, expected to last 22 months, aims to modernize the airport and improve operational efficiency.
