LATEST NEWS: UK Court Jails Nigerian Man Six Years for Sexual Assault

A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Daniel Odubanjo, has been sentenced to six years in prison by a UK court for sexually assaulting two women on a train. Odubanjo, who lives in Clapham, South London, was found guilty of false imprisonment and two counts of sexual assault.

The incidents occurred on November 29, 2024, on a train from Shenfield to Chelmsford. Odubanjo first targeted a 21-year-old woman using the toilet, pushing her back inside, locking the door, and sexually assaulting her. She managed to escape after lying about her age, saying she was 14.

Minutes later, he approached a 17-year-old girl, asked her inappropriate questions, and exposed himself. When he left, she moved seats, but he returned and sexually assaulted her until a passenger intervened.

British Transport Police officers arrested Odubanjo at Hatfield Peverel station. Detective Sergeant Hayley Whyte praised the victims’ bravery, saying they were “left distressed and traumatised” by the attacks.

In addition to the prison sentence, Odubanjo was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting him from being under the influence of substances on public transport.
