At least 13,635 stranded Nigerians were repatriated from 10 countries, including Libya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Ghana, Niger, Algeria, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mali, over the past three years. The largest numbers returned were from Libya, Sudan, and Niger, with yearly breakdowns showing 5,753 repatriated in 2023, 4,261 in 2024, and 3,358 in 2025.
The repatriations were carried out through coordinated efforts involving Nigeria’s missions abroad, international organisations, and specialised agencies responsible for protecting citizens in distress. Returnees received support services, including biometric registration, health checks, temporary shelter, counselling, and safe transit back to their communities.
The Federal Government has warned Nigerians, especially youths, to avoid irregular migration and verify overseas job offers through official channels, citing risks to lives and national development.
