JUST IN: Cybercrime Crackdown in Accra: 53 Nigerians Arrested

Ghana’s security forces have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against cybercrime, arresting 53 Nigerian nationals suspected of running a sophisticated cybercrime network from makeshift offices in Accra. The operation, led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), resulted in the arrest of nine key suspects and the rescue of 44 others believed to be victims of human trafficking and cybercrime exploitation.

The suspects were apprehended in a series of coordinated raids across Accra, including East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba. Authorities seized 62 laptops, 52 mobile phones, and two pump-action guns, pointing to a well-organized and structured cybercrime syndicate.

Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George emphasized that protecting Ghana’s cyber image internationally is non-negotiable, commending the CSA and partner law enforcement agencies for their efforts. The arrested individuals have been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigation.

The operation highlights Ghana’s commitment to combating cybercrime, with previous operations resulting in the arrest and prosecution of several suspects. Authorities urge foreign nationals to verify claims made by fellow nationals to avoid falling prey to such schemes.
