LATEST NEWS: Fugitive Ghanaian Ex-Official Sedina Tamakloe Arrested in US, Faces Extradition

Former CEO of Ghana’s Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been arrested and detained in the United States, marking a significant development in her 10-year jail term evasion. Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by US Marshals on January 6, 2026, acting on an extradition request submitted by Ghanaian authorities in July 2024.

She is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, awaiting court proceedings. Her scheduled appearance is set for January 21, 2026, where her extradition to Ghana will be determined.

Tamakloe-Attionu was sentenced in absentia to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour in April 2024, after being found guilty on 78 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and breaches of the Public Procurement Act. Her co-accused, Daniel Axim, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

The charges against Tamakloe-Attionu include embezzling GH¢3.19 million and causing a deliberate financial loss of GH¢1.97 million to the state. She had absconded while on court-approved medical treatment abroad in 2021 and failed to return for trial.

Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Victor Smith, confirmed Tamakloe-Attionu’s detention, stating that the extradition process is underway. If extradited, she will serve her 10-year sentence in Ghana.
