LATEST NEWS: Nigeria and UAE Join Forces: A $30 Billion Green Deal on Horizon

🇳🇬🇦🇪Nigeria is set to co-host the global investment platform, Investopia, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Lagos this February, as part of a renewed effort to attract international investors and boost sustainable investment inflows. This announcement was made by President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), where Nigeria also concluded a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the UAE.

The CEPA aims to deepen cooperation in renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, and digital trade, and is expected to strengthen collaboration in aviation, agriculture, and climate-smart infrastructure, creating lasting opportunities for citizens of both countries. Under the agreement, the UAE will eliminate tariffs on over 7,000 Nigerian products, granting duty-free access to agricultural and industrial exports such as fish and seafood, oil seeds, cereals, cotton, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.

Nigeria, in turn, will eliminate tariffs on around 6,000 products, mostly industrial inputs, capital goods, and machinery, with 60% removed immediately and the rest phased over five years. The agreement also positions Nigeria as a gateway for international investors seeking access to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) market of 1.4 billion people.

President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 under its Energy Transition Plan, and invited foreign investors to partner with Nigeria in the lithium and critical minerals sector, prioritizing local processing and value addition. The country aims to mobilize up to $30 billion annually in climate and green industrial finance, with ongoing reforms expected to deliver a 21% growth in non-oil exports and over $50 billion in investment commitments across key sectors.
