LATEST NEWS: GHANA CRACKS DOWN ON NIGERIAN CYBERCRIME RING: 141ARRESTED

Ghanaian authorities have arrested 141 Nigerian nationals and a local landlord in a major crackdown on cybercrime networks operating in Accra. The operation, led by the Cyber Security Authority Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service, targeted suspects involved in mobile money fraud, business email compromise, romance scams, sextortion, and wire fraud.

The arrests were made in early-morning raids at Tabora and Lashibi, where law enforcement agencies recovered 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones suspected to have been used in the commission of cyber-enabled financial crimes. The Ghanaian landlord, who accommodated about 100 of the suspects, was also taken into custody for allegedly facilitating the crimes.

Minister of Communication, Samuel Nartey George, warned that Ghana remains welcoming to legitimate businesses but will decisively deal with cybercrime perpetrators according to the law. Forensic analysis of the seized devices is underway, and those found culpable will be prosecuted. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime and protect Ghana’s digital and financial systems. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious digital activities.
