LATEST NEWS: Nigeria Approved US Airstrike: ‘We Gave Intel, Ok’d Op’

Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, has revealed that Nigeria provided intelligence and approved the recent US airstrike on terrorist camps in northwestern Nigeria. Tuggar made the disclosure in an interview with DW News, emphasizing that the operation was a collaborative effort between Nigeria and the US.

According to Tuggar, the Nigerian government had been tracking the terrorists for some time and shared information with the US, which led to the airstrike. He stressed that the operation was not a unilateral US action, but a joint effort with Nigeria’s consent and approval.

Tuggar also downplayed concerns about sovereignty, stating that Nigeria has been cooperating with international partners to tackle terrorism and that the airstrike was aimed at protecting civilians. He added that the operation would help curb terrorist activities in the region.

The US airstrike, carried out on Christmas Day, targeted Islamic State militants in Sokoto, killing several terrorists. The Nigerian government has confirmed the operation, emphasizing its commitment to fighting terrorism.
