The US Consulate General in Lagos is set to host a pre-departure orientation session for Nigerian students holding valid US student visas on December 18, 2025. The event aims to prepare students for academic and social life in the United States.
The orientation will cover essential topics such as:- Coping with culture shock- Managing academic expectations- Building relationships with professors- Securing on-campus jobs- Applying for internships and scholarships- Handling racism and sexual harassment- Maintaining mental health and well-being.
EducationUSA alumni currently studying at US institutions will lead the sessions, sharing practical advice and experiences. The event will also provide travel tips, guidance on packing essentials, and information on renewing student visas.
The initiative comes amid reports of stricter immigration enforcement in the US, with over 85,000 visas revoked since January, including more than 8,000 student visas worldwide.
Interested participants are required to register online through the US Mission’s official social media platforms. The orientation will take place at the US Consulate General, 2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos, from 9 am to 2 pm.
