President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed claims of Christian or Muslim genocide in Nigeria, attributing the country’s security challenges to terrorism driven by criminality and extremism. He emphasized that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of terrorism and urged Nigerians to reject divisive narratives.
Tinubu made this statement while declaring open the 8th Biennial Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT) in Abuja, with the theme “Building Resilience in a Changing World: The Role of Faith and Community”.
He also responded to US President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged Christian genocide, saying the claims are unfounded and harmful. Tinubu assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to protecting all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity.
The President commended NASFAT for promoting moderation, tolerance, and national cohesion, and urged faith-based organizations to continue supporting national values and countering harmful misinformation.
