LATEST NEWS: Most Dangerous places on Earth to follow Christ: Nigeria’s Faith Under Siege

Nigeria is rapidly becoming one of the most perilous places on earth to practice Christianity, warns the U.S. House Appropriations Committee. The committee’s statement, posted on X, highlights the escalating violence against Christians, particularly in rural settlements, at the hands of extremist groups like Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Attacks on churches, kidnappings, and killings have become alarmingly common, with some lawmakers describing the situation as “religious cleansing”. The U.S. has accused Nigerian authorities of failing to protect vulnerable communities, prompting calls for firmer action from Washington.

Rep. Robert Aderholt emphasizes the need for the U.S. to defend liberty and uphold religious freedom globally. The situation is dire, with over 52,000 Christians and 34,000 moderate Muslims killed since 2009, and 7,000 Nigerians dying this year alone.

The Nigerian government denies allegations of genocide, attributing violence to criminality. However, Western legislative bodies continue to raise concerns about targeted attacks, pushing for the White House to take a more assertive stance.
