The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has launched the Connected Diaspora x DOWA Start-Up Challenge, a flagship initiative aimed at strengthening diaspora engagement and accelerating national development. The challenge, themed “Building, Breaking and Believing in Nigeria,” seeks to energize diaspora innovators and promote enterprise development, knowledge exchange, and strategic investment.
With cash prizes of up to ₦1 million, the competition is open to Nigerians abroad, and entries close on December 7, 2025. The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to recognizing the diaspora community as critical partners in national progress.
The Connected Diaspora Flagship Event, scheduled for December 19, 2025, in Lagos, will bring together entrepreneurs, tech leaders, policymakers, investors, and development partners for high-level conversations on Nigeria’s economic future. The event will feature a Diaspora Talent Career and Internship Fair, connecting diaspora returnees with internship placements offered by DOWA partner organizations.
NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, emphasized that the initiative is timely, transformative, and strategically aligned with Nigeria’s development priorities. The commission encourages young Nigerians and diaspora returnees to participate in the Start-Up Challenge and seize the opportunities available for innovation, investment, and nation-building.
